Every year volunteers lead big, new events or re-energize some old favorites. Here are just five of our spectacular events of 2009.

Bringing in green on the green

Many glasses were raised at the Greater Kansas Chapter’s 22nd Annual Wine Fest. The event was held at historic Union Station featuring food from 15 area restaurants, 100 varieties of wine, live entertainment and a large silent auction. In addition to raising glasses and community awareness, the event raised more than $110,000!

The best restaurants and wineries in Sacramento came together to raise more than just appetites. More than 6,500 attendees enjoyed samplings from more than 200 restaurants and wineries voted “best” by the readers of Sacramento magazine. The Best of Sacramento event, which is sponsored by the magazine, celebrated its 11th year and raised more than $345,000 for March of Dimes in 2009.

The Texas Chapter put together an all-star lineup for their Breakfast with a Champion — former quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. Past events have included Bob Costas, Greg Gumbel, Tommy Lasorda, Mike Ditka, Johnny Bench, Bo Jackson, Don Shula and Nolan Ryan. For the past 15 years, nearly 1,000 business executives have come together to support the March of Dimes and enjoy a breakfast in the company of a sports legend. Breakfast with a Champion raised $161,710.

A live auction and black-tie dinner raked in revenue for the Georgia Chapter. The annual Evening of Excellence, held at the St. Regis Hotel in Atlanta, honors local citizens for distinguished leadership and devoted community service. More than 180 guests attended the event. Honorary Chairs Chantal and Tommy Bagwell reported that more than $200,000 was raised for the event.

Eighty-five sports stars and celebrities took to the greens to support the 5th Annual Joe Namath March of Dimes Celebrity Golf Classic at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York, on October 1, 2009. "Law & Order" actor Anthony Anderson, NBA Hall of Famer John Havlicek and PGA Champion Lee Elder were a few of the celebrities in attendance. The event raised $812,000.
