Footwear Chain Kicks Off Its 2006 In-Store Fundraising Campaign April 2
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., APRIL 3, 2006 – In its fourth year as a March of Dimes National WalkAmerica Sponsor, Famous Footwear has collaborated with Dr. Scholl's® on a signature walking shoe to raise funds for WalkAmerica. For every shoe sold, $1 will be donated to the March of Dimes, up to $40,000. Designed by Dr. Scholl's, the Official Shoe Sponsor of WalkAmerica, the shoe is available exclusively at Famous Footwear stores and on FamousFootwear.com.
“As a national sponsor of WalkAmerica, Famous Footwear is continuously looking for innovative ways to further support March of Dimes and its important work in infant health,” said Famous Footwear President Joe Wood. “Partnering with a well-known walking shoe brand like Dr. Scholl's to create a signature WalkAmerica shoe will help us reach even more customers with the March of Dimes message.”
Additionally, the chain today kicks off its annual spring fundraiser benefiting March of Dimes WalkAmerica in 950 stores nationwide. The “Give Hope. Watch Miracles Happen” campaign invites customers to make a donation at the register to help support March of Dimes research and other programs to save babies from premature birth and other serious infant health problems.
Famous Footwear and its associates and customers have raised more than $3 million for the March of Dimes.
“We are delighted that Famous Footwear returns as the exclusive national footwear sponsor of WalkAmerica 2006,” said March of Dimes President Dr. Jennifer L. Howse. “By shopping at Famous Footwear, people can find great values and styles for important events like WalkAmerica and at the same time, help give all babies the full nine months of pregnancy they deserve.”
WalkAmerica takes place each year in about 1,100 communities throughout the United States, usually during the last weekend in April. WalkAmerica raises money to support March of Dimes programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies from premature birth, birth defects, and other causes of infant death and disability. More than half a million babies are born prematurely in the U.S. every year.
